The Virtures of Blogging as Shcolarly Activity

In Martin Weller's article "The Virtues of Blogging as Scholarly Activity" he discuss how blogging has changed his life and the way he writes. The author talks about being a fan of blogging because it allows him to stay on top of whats going on without really watching TV. The author says that blogging allows to debate with people globally about topics that he feel is important. I agree with the author's opinion about the blogging on a university's web page to help draw in students who are looking to attend. Many times its the pictures and students responses to being on campus that attracts future students, not what the student tourist has to say.
Because blogging is an open source of research, it has to be watched carefully. I think that blogging should be used as a source of research, but only when using valid credentials. This meaning that the person who says something must have a link to prove the truth about something that is being said unless it is an opinion. Using blogs as a research may also cause a problem for those who use a post that may get flagged as time progress. I don't see a problem with using it as a research because it's more opinions whether you agree with them or not.
Weller also talks about other social networking being a form of blogging. I understand why he feels as if social networking is a form of blogging because people say things, relevant or not, and people comment on them according to how they feel about what is being posted. Blogging as the author stated can also have negative effects on a person's work. He admitted that after he started blogging he was more connected globally, but he wasn't publishing as many journals as he had before. Blogging may discourage one from blogging if the things they say aren't being responded to. However, I think blogging is quicker that doing actual research and allows more opinion that the person who is giving the information.
