GAMIFICATION
Gamification is a great strategy to use in the classroom because of the pros that it offers. The Gamification article explains how many people are using gamification inside the classroom, offices, and also for health programs, such as weight watchers. I think the reason why the gamification system works so well, is because everyone likes the thought of "winning" something. As explained in the article students can win things such as awards and badges. Sometimes they can also win the opportunity to turn things in at a different time. Everyone loves to compete and gamification provides competing and the ability to learn.
The group learning shown in the article's scenario, shows how gamification is used in groups, which I feel as though it makes really makes the information stay. The article also talks about how technology is also used in the gamification system. An example of technology gamification that I have experienced in the classroom is jeopardy. Playing jeopardy allow for knowledge to stick with students as well as helping them find out what sections of work they are not so well with.
The article also talks about the cons of gamification. The author states that if gamification is not successful it only provides embarrassment to the person who is competing. He/She also talks about how gamification discourages the person competing if the "prizes" are not what they expected.
I think that the idea of using gamification at the university is a good idea because though students are not being "spoon fed" by their parents anymore they still have motivation to do work because of the "prize" that will be given at the end on their four years. Gamification motivated me to read in the fifth grade because I was told I would be given a free dinner at one of the new restaurants in town. Gamification, I think, is the best learning system around.
